Softball: A Brief Case Study of the Pendulum in Motion

Dear People,

In a joyously compelling match that finally brought 2012 to its merciful end, my team staved off Jim's, 20-19. It was a seesawing battle that was rife with grand athletic history, and I'm not saying that just because Steve Bedrick pulled off what is arguably one of the most prestigious feats in the history of amateur sport. True, it may have initially passed without notice, yet the stunning fact is that with tensions high in the 5th and the score tied at 10, good ol' Bed Bones took just five of his impeccable knuckle balls to dispense with Maria, Jerry and Mateo, and in so doing, he suddenly snagged the all-time community record for the most members of a single family ever retired in a row!

The Scheidts, of course, are a prideful folk, and just two innings later, Papa Jerry and his cherished athletic seedage took good ol' Linen Legs to the woodshed. Indeed, all three were soon rounding the diamond on two line drives and a deep fly to right-An equally kick-ass feat for which they suddenly snagged the all-time community record for the most members of a single familial unit to ever consecutively get on base against a bitterly resented pitcher who himself had just snagged the record for the most members of a single family ever retired in a row!! Yeah, I still get statistical chills, and therefore the first game of 2013 will be at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. . .Raymond

PS: As you can imagine, I've been vigilantly watching your elected bozos in Washington to see how yesterday's crash over the aerobic cliff was playing out, and specifically how it would affect our league (Indeed, as soon as we went over at 12:01AM Tuesday, I personally suffered a bloodied upper left buttock). Yet given that the House has just passed the latest legislative punt as I peck these very words, I haven't been able to peruse it for its impact on disdained softball-lovin' people like us. Still, my best guess is that even in a worst case scenario, we'd be able to muddle through with only a tripling of the field fee so long as we agreed to mow, water and hoe ourselves. Yep, that's right: hoe.

Softball: The Spa

Dear People,
There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now it is full. As always, please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and if you still want in, feel free to get on the wait list or contact me later for news of reopened slots.

This week's field fee is just $4, and that includes a post-game hydrotherapy soak with fresh marine algae to drain the toxins…Raymond 845-7552

Softball: Sunday 9:50AM: Maxwell Astroturf Park It Is!

Dear Hearty People,

I just got back from Codornices, and while she's verdant and proud, the fact is she was still pretty battered last night, particularly in her malarial center and center-right. Kira, Michael Davey and I agreed she needs more time to dry out.
But here's the thing; I happen to know that in his dedication to the advancement of the biological sciences, Jim is once again about to take off for several weeks, this time for Indonesia (or perhaps Iceland-I remember it's one of the 'I's), and if we don't play today, he'll get no games in for the entire month of January! So sure, we can be a bunch of tremulous old science-hating bozos, or we can do the right thing, seize the aerobic day and play on the glorious Astroturf sheathing at Maxwell Park. And this we shall do! Hopefully.

There are no guarantees, but there are two fields and Cal is off, and as of a few minutes ago, both were available. SO, we shall congregate there and hope for the best, and if we get screwed again we'll resort to some as yet to be determined Plan B.

Maxwell is on Gayley between the Greek Theater and the Coliseum, across from the Hass Business School. There's paid parking ($5?) in the lot and lots of free parking on Gayley and College, within a five minute walk.

No excuses/Aerobic Diem!/Life is risk/See you at Maxwell at 11!....Ray 845-7552 cell 759-6819

PS: Anybody who could get there by 10:45ish to help seize the field would be a national hero in my book.

PPS: One slot now available!
