Softball: This Vexatious Problem of Land

Dears,

I must confess that when the soccer playing gangs who invaded Kleeberger in the minutes before you all arrived began to encroach on our temporary homeland, I once again felt the searing loss of all the wondering aerobic tribes of history, from the Jews and Palestinians to the Armenians and the Expos. Yet of course, like them, we are not ones to just roll over in the face of such an impolite power grab, and thus I took special pride in watching our people carve out our own modified field on just 50% of our normal acreage. Oh sure, homeplate was now halfway down the third base line, and with the new geometry, even Nanci could blast homeruns out of the park (Well, not really). Yet we stood down the evildoer Soccerites, and in so doing, we maintained our pride as a people.

Still, let’s not kid ourselves. Playing the first four innings of a game on a space that is better suited for hop-scotch than softball is an act of dubious relevance at best, and thus while it’s true that Chris Fure’s team beat my own 14-13 in a bone-chilling 10, I think we all can agree that it would be unfair to our children if future generations viewed this as a legitimate match. And therefore, 40 minutes after the game was over, I drove to the Alameda County Court House and had the score annulled.

And speaking of arbitrary and dictatorial powers, it just so happens that next Sunday I will be attending a wedding of true nuptial import, as opposed to that teenybopper joke in Vegas. Of course I would still love to frolic with all of you, and thus there will be a game at Kleeberger or Codornices this SATURDAY at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…..Raymond 845-7552

PS: For those who tend to doze off by the last sentence of these missives, I would gently remind you that 11AM SATURDAY is just like 11AM Sunday, except that it’s actually 24 hours earlier.

Softball: Manana! (with the ~ above the first n)

Dear People,

There will be a game at either Codornices or Kleeberger TOMORROW at 11AM, and as of now, there are still, shamefully, seven slots left. You are therefore invited to commit any sentient beings, including the dark and creepy scoundrels that formed your "family" in the now distant days of your broken adolescence.

You’ll need to check email tomorrow morning around 10AM, lest you end up at the wrong field, cold and alone and feeling like a dufus….Raymond

Softball: Saturday 9:45AM: More Warm Bodies!

Codornices is soggy and offically closed, but as of a few minutes ago, Kleeberger was unoccupied and craving our presence. We will therefore converge at Kleeberger, hope for the best, and be prepared to quickly seize other terrian. It’s not easy being us.

On Saturdays, field parking is $7 from 7AM on and most students have already returned, so right next to the field is not good. But on Piedmont (Southeast of campus) between Bancroft and Channing, there’s still plenty of space. It’s a five minute walk.

As of now, there are 17 commits and two ‘maybes,’ so I am encouraging all those who plan on playing to look deep into their inner Rolodex and find me some more warm bodies.

See ya in an hour….Ray
