Softball: Priorities

Dear People,

Let the record show that on a curiously frosty January day, Kora made her captainial debut, and while I had initially worried that she'd crack under the stress, her team promptly pulverized my own, 22-13. Indeed, they jumped out to an unseemly 14-2 3rd-inning lead, and for the rest of the match, my side floundered under the humiliating protection of the double-digit mercy rule. Perhaps it was all a fluke, but if she later displays the staggering finesse with which she teased out the rapacious athletic beast in every one of her players, we could face a discomforting challenge to our long-standing policy of basic managerial equilibrium (I refer you, for example, to Mike “Derring-do” Davey, whose forehead-first crash into the hard birch woods of the home plate backstop was not only the majestic dénouement to a run well deserved, but whose very essence is now a towering symbol of this frightfully new Koratinian zeal).
The point is that I was thinking of not even organizing a game this week since apparently Berkeley's beloved San Francisco 48ers will be playing the Atlantic Parrots for the LPGA quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon. Yet I must have been having a senior moment since I suddenly remembered that I actually haven't given a shit about professional football since 1972, when the LA Rams traded away my all-time favorite quarterback-Roman Gabriel-thereby forever shattering my pre-pubescent innocence. Sure, I'm still polysportal-curious and it's admittedly tempting to get back into it all, but the emotive wound is still too raw. And therefore there will be an ethically superior game of softball at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Raymond

Softball: The Upshot of Trypanophobia

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still four slots left.

Please bring $4 for the field, which for this week only includes my personal pledge to our entire aerobic community that despite the nearly unachievable expectations that so many of you have of me whenever I come to the plate, I simply will not resort to performance-enhancing drugs…Raymond 845-7552

PS: Get these fine people to the Oakland DMV. . .
