Softball: A Brief Treatise on Leadering

Dear People,

For the 4th time in a row, a single solitary run was the heartbreaking buffer between triumph and failure. Even more annoying was that this week it was Jonny’s team that barely staved off my own, 11-10, suggesting once again that both the tenor and quality of captainship is almost eerie in its irrelevance. "Once the batting order is set" he quietly confided, "I don’t think these people remember who I am."

Perhaps, and yet let’s be honest; If Jonny’s counter-intuitive laissez-faire aerobic authoritude is what inspired Enid to pitch so brilliantly or Don to hit so explosively or Peter to do whatever it is he did, then I think the least we should do is admit that the entire science of industrial management lies splayed and naked before us, awaiting its discomforting yet inevitable rewrite. And therefore there will be a game this Sunday at 11:00, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: Jazz the Night Before…

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now, it is full. Please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and feel free to contact me later for possible openings. As always, $3 for the field, and check email if it rains heavily between now and then.

Finally, J. Michael Tucker, one of our most beloved semi-regulars, would like to tell you how you can prepare your mind, body and soul for this weekend’s game (Softball, Super Bowl or otherwise). Details below…Ray 845-7552

---------------------------------

To all my soft ballers...There will be a cool concert @ the Freight and Salvage this Saturday evening. Feb. 4th

Jenna Mammina will be performing w/ Andre Bush. Jenna’s the famous girlfriend of (Tucker, J. Michael, Mike) all of those guys. Anyway it starts at about 7:30, and there will be a pre-party at the Chris Furry, Tucker household about 10 blocks away (911 Madison, Albany). So gather all the troops and support some live Bay Area Music. See ya there!

Softball: IMPORTANT!! New Location: Please read if you committed ;-(…

Dear People,

When I went to pick up the park reservation this morning, Susie at Parks and Rec was adamant that Pre-Alzheimer’s is not a moral failing. In any case, the bottom line is that our game at Cordornices is actually at SAN PABLO #2 since, as she had told me a few weeks ago, a bunch of weirdos called something like the Berkeley-Albany Girl’s Softball League has Codornices reserved every Sunday from 9-5 for the month of February.

SO, this Sunday’s game at 11:00 will be at San Pablo #2 (at the corner of Mabel and Oregon, three blocks Northeast of Ashby and San Pablo). HOWEVER, you will need to check your email, because San Pablo #2 is apparently still very wet, soaked and contemptible, and I will need to check it later to see if it’s open and/or playable. No, it’s not easy being us…Ray

PS: A gentle heads-up: There may be a few Codornices games on Saturday in the weeks to come…

Softball: Game CANCELLED: The Sorrow and the Pity ;-(

Dear People,

We have been totally hosed; Although I don’t even remember when it last rained hard, San Pablo field is an officially closed, unplayable suck-swamp of mud, lakes, malarial infestation and broken aerobic dreams. Makes one appreciate Codornices, except that of course we can’t since it’s been stolen by a bunch of presumptuous girlie imperialists.

Assuming I don’t go to Seattle next week, I’ll make it happen. Stay tuned…Ray
