Softball: The Conceptual Allure of More Favorable Laws

Dear People,

Frank’s team pan-seared my own 17-9, but for the record, we only crumbled late, and overall, we played with a stirring reserve of such immense grace that it almost demands a dyslexic reversal of the official score. If you’d be so kind, let me give you an example of which I speak:

As Chris D. rounded 2nd base on her way to her second triple in four innings (holy moly!), Ramona quickly recovered from the initial miscalculation of that amazing line drive down the 1st base line. Other fielders would have just given up 3rd in resigned despair, but Ramona—sturdy, focused and with unflappable aplomb—quickly assessed the crisis at hand and then immediately proceeded to hurl the ball straight into Chris’ perfectly innocent spleen. Curiously, it barely slowed her down, but the point is that when faced with a sudden risk of zeitgeist-roiling runnage, Ramona stayed cool under fire and brought dignity to our team by defiantly adopting the exhilarating rules of Dodgeball. Yes, this is what I mean by the immensity of grace.

In any case, and as you know, I really prefer that this listserv not be used for non-softball related announcements, appeals, queries and the like, and obviously I’m not about to break from that principle now. However, if anybody out there happens to know a really good tree pruner, I’d be much obliged, and trust me, I write that with the most genteel Southern accent that the codified word allows. Of course, a lot of you in this community are off living in far-flung weirdo places like rural Khazakistan, and while I’m sure you guys know some awesome Khazaki arborists, I think we can all agree that I should stick with some of the more local talent. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond
