Softball: The Come and Go of Human Excellence

Dear People,

Jeff W’s team crushed my own 25-19, but as much as that sucks, the important point is that we actually got to play after a ghastly month of rain-outs. In all candor, I had been worried that some of us would’ve forgotten the intuitive flow, ludicrous rules and je-ne-sais-quoi of the game itself, especially since Ehud and Eric hadn’t played in several months and Christine showed up for the first time in over six years! Nevertheless, every player there performed with grace and aplomb, though in the Huud’s case, his center-left apumbage was a tad deficient in depth perception.

To be sure, once they’ve drunk from the well of our little aerobic democracy (our LAD, if you will), rare are the great disappeared who can stay away forever. I mention this because Jonny, yes, that Jonny—the moral spleen of our entire community—will be back this week for a brief Bay-Area sojourn. After having fled to Melbourne last summer, our little bubelah is now tanned, lean and modestly fluent in Australian. Moreover, he has tacitly guaranteed me an inspiring blend of doubles, triples and industrial metal that will once again make him the very zygote of our organic renewal. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Ray

Softball: Packed

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now it is full. As always, if you committed and need to cancel, please let me know ASAP, and if you’re looking for reopened slots, feel free to contact me later.

This week’s field fee is just $4, and that includes a special post-game symposium on how to create, nurture and profit from your very own ponzi scheme. . . .Raymond 845-7552

PS: Starting next week, I’ll be in Asia frolicking with Wendy’s 500 cousins. Chris Fure will be in charge for the following two games, and while I admit he can be a harsh and demanding taskmaster, I also believe that you’ll eventually be won over by his kindness, alluring eyes and raw organizational sagacity.

Softball: Sunday Morning 9:10AM: Fate in the Balance

Just to be clear, Jonny—yeah, the moral spleen of our entire community— did not fly out 12,686 miles to get rained out because of a little drizzly-pooh. On the other hand, I will not needlessly submit you to the risks of malaria and tertiary syphilis just because Jonny flew out 12,696 miles to play softball.

In brief, we are in a very delicate stage of climatological ambiguity (the organizer’s most dreaded enemy) and you must simply be patient. Chris Fure and I will soon be going to Codornices to assess the situation, and after consultation with my recreational advisors, I will get back to you by 10:30 latest.

ASSUME NOTHING, and be prepared. Courage….Raymond

Softball: Sunday Morning 10:15AM: Onward Stout Athletes!

Just got back from Codornices, which is slightly damp, totally unpuddled and utterly glorious! (sort of). Even better, Doppler Radar has just the tiniest specks of rainage between Mendocino and Salinas!

Bottom line: Bring your mist-repellant softball gear ’cause we’re playing.

No excuses/do it for Jonny!/Do it for every one of those 12, 686 miles he endured just to play ball with you and me….Ray 845-7552

PS: Chris Fure takes complete ethical responsibility for this decision.

PPS: If it starts to rain, we will retreat to a succulent brunch at a local eatery.

PPPS: I’ve already suffered two totally woos defections this morning and could use at least one more player. Be a hero!
