Softball: A Portrait of Turmoil in the Wake of Executive Miscasting

Dear People,

After gingerly sneaking out to a somewhat unsightly 20-1 lead in the top of the 2nd, my team went on to pulverize Jonny’s, 35-27. His side had some of the finest players in our community—Tucker, Micheal Davey, Tom O and Jeff W—and yet under his disturbingly feckless leadership, their defense was among the worst I’ve seen in 40 years of ball. “We’ve got a crisis” Dave K confided in me as our teams crossed intra-inning paths, adding that “It’s just started, we’re already down by 19 and it’s 3AM, but it’s like Jonny doesn’t even know how to pick up the damn phone.” All I could do was show some tacit empathy, and like Dave himself, wonder anew how a lad of such little vision and seasoning could’ve ever risen to captain.

Regardless, Jonny’s side caught an apparent break in the 4th when Chris Fure and his beloved bride Frieda moseyed on up to the field at 12:09PM, both of them apparently unaware that Daylight Savings is actually a chronological concept. The point is that in an act of sheer aerobic mercy, my side took the Friedameister (the looks, charm and brains of the pair), and Jonny’s side took the Furenator—the brilliant renaissance athlete who specializes in turning around failed and pitiful teams.

Ironically though, with Frieda now finally freed from her hubby’s loving athletic oversight, she flourished like never before, smashing two singles, driving in one and scoring twice! On the other hand, ’ol sleepy head failed to stanch his adopted contingent’s bleeding, and so when it was all over, an amorphous cloud of recreational disgrace lingered over the beaten communal carcass of a phoenix not risen.

Yeah, those are harsh words, but I happen to ply the trade of basic recreational journalism, where my only lover is the unvarnished truth. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Ray

Softball: Tucker! (and Spitzer)

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM and as of now there are still six slots left. As always, $3 for the field.

Now look, I know that’s steep, but just for the record: If the game lasts just two hours, that’s still 99.8% cheaper per minute than what The Emperor’s Club charges, and they don’t even guarantee a truly aerobic release! I think you see my point.

In any case, this notice is going out earlier than usual for a non-full game since Michael J. Tucker—one of the beloved superstars in last week’s debacle whose heroic efforts to save Jonny’s imploding team was all for naught—has something very timely to tell you…

-----------------

Hello folks,

Ray has been kind enough to allow me to invite you all to my
photographic opening.

It will take place this Thursday evening [tonight!!] between 6:30- 10 in
San Francisco, at Caffee Union, which is at 1830 Union Street/ Octavia.
Basically I'm just having a cool party and am displaying images that
I captured of the Mission District.

People, lifestyles, that sort of thing. The show is up all month, so
if you can’t make the party you can still go on a field trip. It will be
a blast of an evening, tons of wine and beer and live music to celebrate
a Mission well done... So tell a friend and come hang out.
