Softball: Athens (The Final Shot of a Sub-Shtick Abused)
Dear People,
In a briskly swaying match of unusual hormonal intensity (don’t ask), my team beat back Jonny’s, 20-17. In fact, my side had a crushing 12-0 lead as we went into the 5th, and thus as we exchanged our usual, intensely bitter inter-inning captains’ banter, I could see the deep terror in his gorgeous South African corneas, as if he were already reading yet one more email with the word’s “Jonny”, “captain” and “feckless” strewn throughout its harsh athletic analysis.
But, I’m ahead of myself; Fear, as we know, can shake the aerobic soul, and thus over the next few innings, Jonny himself lead a breath-taking shift in the recreational zeitgeist. His hitting was multi-base and riveting, and Tucker, Kira and Ramona followed up with their own big bats ’a blazin. Even more critical, their defense congealed, and suddenly, as the 8th arrived, his team had a startling 16-15 lead!
Alas, though, true leadership is not measured by the sheer and unexpected breadth of a mid-game rally, or even the sporadic inspiration of excellence by example (critical as all those are). No, my friends, the greatness of a leader is measured by the final result, or as Aristophanes used to say, "The hard reality of cumulative acts." The Ancient Greeks were all wacko, of course, but in this case, their wisdom was both prophetic and precise; Had Jonny's final-inning captainship been inspired rather than feckless, the tale I tell today would've been so very different, so very different indeed. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Ray

Softball: Protection
Dear People,
There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now it is full. As always, please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and feel free to contact me later for reopened slots.
