Softball: Our Heritage of Heroes—Present, Future, Past

Dear People,

Despite the lingering pain of last week’s ghastly labial wound, Frank led his side to a nail-biting 9-8 victory over my own, and for that, I believe he should be commended, feted and slathered in fresh organic kick-ass sauce. Even more inspiring, or at least ironic, or perhaps ironically inspiring, was that the razor-thin margin of their triumph was supplied by Siobhan, who blasted into two mid-inning one-RBI double-plays to short, thereby showing that there is no greater love of team than the no-out tactical allurage of a sagacious twofold sacrifice with an intrepid runner on 3rd. To be sure, rare is the visionary aerobic tactician who strikes twice in a row so selflessly, and for that, I believe that the Siobsterina should also be commended, feted and slathered in that same chilled carafe of fresh organic kick-ass sauce.

Kudos should also be given to Tristan, who made his stirring league debut and continued to build on our own communal legacy of vital Dutch athleticism (see http://www.eslnotes.com/ray/061709.html). For the record, the Tristanator is not only my niece’s significant athletic other, but he is also a brilliant young scientist who’s about to embark on a grueling PhD in Chemistry (or Biochemistry, or Cellular Biology or perhaps Medieval Russian Studies—I can’t really remember). The point is that he will soon be choosing between Berkeley, Princeton, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Scripps and Stanfurd (ick), and while I’m obviously not going to “recommend” one of these majestic institutions over the rest, I would gently remind him that Cal—unlike those other pieces of academic crap—is the only one with easy access to the finest unaffiliated email-organized softball league West of the Sacramento River. ’Nuff said.

Finally: I am proud to report that Jonny Sagorin---our own little South African rutabaga---was just awarded the MVP and Golden Glove Awards for Division 2 of Melbourne’s storied St. Kilda Baseball Club!!! (See photo below). Oh sure, for all we know Division 2 is a guild of legally blind pre-pubescent Aussie street urchins, and yet I happen to think that an award is an award, no matter how unseemly the backstory. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. . .Ray

Softball: A Seasonal Blend of Lagniappes

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still three slots left.

Please bring $4 for the field, which for this week only includes either a rarely accessible multi-entry tourist visa for both Kyzrkistan and Idaho or an honorary PhD from Rutgers in Geonuclear Semantics…Ray 845-7552
