Softball: A Nuanced Display of our Renowned Intrepidity

Dear People,

Let the record show that while any other league would’ve succumbed to the despicable threats that we faced from both the fist of the state and the cloudpiss of the Lord, we scoffed at the risk and converged at Codornices for a raw, brisk and utterly exhilarating match of the finest sport on the face of the earth. Even better, Chris Fure’s team initially took an unsightly 16-0 lead over my own, but my side quickly rallied and rallied hard, closing that gap to a tantalizingly doable 21-11 at the end of the 5th.

At that point, there seemed to be a subtle waning in the stoutness of our communal resolve, and thus as the soothing mist turned into a delightful light drizzle, a grumble-induced election was hastily called to see if we should continue. To my horror, half the players there voted to immediately flee the park as if they were a terrified cackle of Alameda pussy deer, proving once again that democracy is the most ridiculous form of decision-making ever devised by man. In any case, this pitiful display of hydrophobic panic was all the more annoying since it’s quite clear that if the game had gone nine, my team would’ve triumphed, 38-25. Still, we live in a society where ephemeral is the taint of shame well-deserved, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning… Raymond

PS: Paul left his cherished yellowish Mizuno mitt in my equipment box a couple games ago, but it apparently disappeared last week. If you accidentally mistook it for your own, please let me know so that I can unite this humble yet glorious glove with its rightful hand.

PPS: It has come to my attention that Google, a modestly successful technology company that has no problem finding every usage of the word ‘ironic’ on every webpage in the universe within .01 seconds, is apparently no longer capable of sending out emails without destroying their paragraph spacing. I’ve therefore decided to manually double space between said paragraphs, but am not sure how this will actually appear once digested and spit out by the sundry networks and programs that work their digital magic between you and me. If you commit, any feedback on how this missive looks would also be appreciated.

Softball: Your Quasi-official Real Estate Sport

Dear People,

There will hopefully be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still three slots left. Please note that there is a possibility of rain that morning (grrrrr…), and thus if conditions are ambiguous, you will need to check your email.

This week’s field fee is just $4, and that includes your own complimentary softball page on either Facebook, Linkedin or Jdate.com…Raymond 845-7552

PS: It saddens me to announce that Kerri Arsenault will soon be moving to Curacao, in part because she’s so way cool, and in part because she has been one of our most dominant athletes in the two years since she joined our community. One silver lining though is that you now have the opportunity to buy Kerri’s Rockridge house before it goes on the market next month! Do I “know” that if you buy her house, you’ll suddenly run, hit and field with the same athletic excellence that Kerri’s displayed? Yes, I do. . .

Rockridge Craftsman Home for Sale: 5440 Manila Avenue, Oakland.

As some of you know, my husband is being transferred to Curacao for his work, and naturally, I am going with him. With regret, we have decided to sell our house. While we intend on listing the house with our realtor, Cameron Platt, by the end of April, we are sending this notice to select people who may be interested in the house BEFORE we list it. With no commission to pay, that means there is more room for negotiation for you!

For $899,000 you get:

A @2,000 square feet (my husband just measured it) of livable and well-cared for space, which includes:
&Mac183; 2.5 bedrooms (one room is quite small and can be converted or expanded into the larger bedroom or made into a 2nd office)
&Mac183; 2 full bathrooms (one recently and tastefully renovated to the period of the house)
&Mac183; Living Room with (in use) stone fireplace
&Mac183; Dining Room with period built-ins
&Mac183; Eat-in kitchen (we currently have an 8 foot table in there!)
&Mac183; Laundry and pantry off the kitchen
&Mac183; Bright upstairs office with a beautiful view of the Oakland hills
&Mac183; Room off the upstairs office (now used as my closet)
&Mac183; Space for expansion upstairs (our attic is now used for storage, but can easily be converted into livable space OR a complete renovation can be done, as our neighbors have done. This space is NOT included in the 2,000 sq ft livable area)
&Mac183; Bright south-facing home with good sized front porch, up and away from street
&Mac183; Wood floors in entire house
&Mac183; Period details throughout
&Mac183; Good flow from room to room, breezy and cool in summer; we never use AC.

Moving outside…

&Mac183; Thriving organic herb garden in a raised bed
&Mac183; Hops vines, lilac tree, jasmine in the back
&Mac183; New garage interior (hiding within the old exterior)
&Mac183; Half brick patio, half lawn in the backyard
&Mac183; Driveway fits 3 cars easily

Etc.
&Mac183; Wonderful, respectful, and mature neighbors
&Mac183; The house is 4 buildings uphill from College Avenue, 4 blocks from BART, viewing distance from the library, and a quick walk to some fantastic restaurants, Market Hall, Trader Joe’s, Safeway, and 2.1 (bikeable) miles to UC Berkeley and more, which makes marketing, errands, and general life much easier; we mainly use our one-speed bikes to get wherever we need to go.
&Mac183; Highway 24 is within a minute’s drive in either direction
&Mac183; Properties sell fast here, so contact me soon if you want a tour or pictures.

Boiler Plate:
&Mac183; We have all termite and inspection reports we acquired upon buying the house that you are welcome to look at…we’ve not done a new inspection yet, and will, although the reports are less than three years old and we think are still a fair assessment of the buildings.
&Mac183; For first time home buyers, there is a potential of $18,000 in tax credits. See here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/04/01/BU9G1CNTVN.DTL&tsp=1

Softball: Totally Hosed Again ;-(….But time to Feast!….

Dears,

As you know, my eyes fill with the tears of 1,000 orphaned blue crab whenever I have to cancel a game, but it’s starting to drizzle as I speak and the Doppler radar is showing a vile wet rain is imminent.

However, because we have never been “about” softball, but rather about the majestic connections of community itself, Chris Fure and I will be heading toward the Sunnyside Café at 11AM for a delicious and utterly aerobic brunch of protein and good cheer.

Sunnyside is at 1499 Solano in Albany; Please let me know by 10:30 if you’ll be joining us so I can reserve you a seat….Raymond
