Softball: Wheaties

Dear People,

My team crushed Jonny’s on the last hit of Easter Day, 23-22, in one of those sublime see-sawing battles that give me burgeoning resurrectionist goose pimples. Of course pimples of any stripe are a function of greatness observed, and when JT blasted his forth homerun in the 8th, he not only put my team ahead again, he did something that no other player has done in the 10-year history of this community; Yes, he hit for the Homerific Cycle, with a solo-blast to centerright, a 1-RBI rocket to centerleft, a 2-RBI missile to dead center and a blistering Grand Slam to Fresno!

I take personal satisfaction in his amazing feat, for like me, JT is big, bald and beautiful. This can only mean that my own cycle will one day come, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Ray

PS: Stay tuned for immediate news of significant import….

Softball: MAJOR ANNIVERSARY ANNOUNCEMENT (6/10/07)!!

Dear People (especially those folks who’ve been part of this community over the last decade at one time or another, but who later wandered off to live in weirdo distant locales like Louisville, Boston and San Jose, where unaffiliated email-organized softball is not only not played, but viewed with shameless scorn):
It is my great pleasure to announce that there will be a special 10-Year Anniversary Double-header & Pot-luck Barbecue on Sunday, June 10th, from 11AM to about 5PM, and if you’re reading this, you’re invited. Just to show you how aerobically wondrous this day is going to be, I can already confirm that Jen and Mikie, the moral backbones of this entire community—until they fled to Kentucky and handed off spinalhood to Nanci—have guaranteed me they will be in attendance! I get chills just thinking about it.

Some logistics and other stuff:

1) If you’re an old timer who decides to fly in for the weekend, I should be able to find you a place to stay within the community (If I can’t, you can always stay at the Claremont Hotel for a mere $2,000 a night).

2) Please let me know ASAP if you will be attending from one of those peculiar, faraway places.

3) For the regulars, I’ll probably take commits the week before, as usual, but not to worry since there will indeed be two games scheduled. Everyone should have a chance to commit to one of the two, at 11AM or 2PM, and if there’s still slots left later that week, you can play in both (If there are more commits than expected, I reserve the right to give priority to the out-of-towners and regulars over the locally-based once-in-a-blue-mooners).

4) Between the games, we will have a multi-grill pot-luck barbecue, and most likely afterward, some delicious matches of ultimate frisbee.

5) In theory, Nanci will be filming the festivities and will soon be asking for sundry technical volunteers. Today, Youtube, tomorrow the Oscar for Best Aerobic Documentary.

6) For those who just can’t believe it’s been 10 full years, here’s a decade of drivel to help you ponder where the time goes: http://eslnotes.com/ray/6.html
More updates in the weeks ahead…Ray

Softball: The Wondrous Web

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now, there are still three slots left.

Please bring $3 for the field, which for this week includes absolutely nothing beyond the match itself. However, because I already feel guilty just for saying that, I will leave you with three of my current favorite cyberclips…Ray
