Softball: The Tingly Foundations of Romance

Dear People,

Congratz to all on last week’s blistering won-on-the-last-hit 19-18 paragon of salubrious triumph and tragedy. Jay Z’s team trailed my own to the very end, and indeed, the five run deficit that they faced in the bottom of the 9th would have probably sent lesser mortals scurrying naked into the surrounding yak-laden tundra. Instead, they successfully fought back with intrepidity, zeal and grace, and they did so despite the fact that my own team played that last inning with basically flawless defense.

Except for Elliot, of course, but in fairness, it was his first game with the community, and I’m obviously not the kind of guy who would highlight the team-killing errors of an otherwise honorable debut. I mean, first of all, and as best as I can tell, Elliot and Terri are somehow connected, or "going out" or "going steady" or "going gingerly toward the possible possibility of a pre-prenuptial phase" or whatever it is that today’s yearning singles are wont to do, and I’m certainly not going to risk embarrassing her by focusing on either him or them.

Oh sure, it’s true that when my team was just one last out from its victorious rendezvous with destiny, Elliot curiously chose to hurl the potential game-winning throw from shallow right field to the ice cream truck on Euclid, 50 yards past home plate. Still, do I "know" that’s what allowed Jay’s team to score two runs, tie the game, and then go on to crush my own just two pitches later? Yes, in fact, I do, though if it’s any consolation for Terri and Elliot, I also happen to know that there is no stronger resin for a fledgling couple than the egalitarian assurance of aerobic compatibility. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11:00, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Raymond

Softball: Sweet Things

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11:00, and as of now, there are still three slots left.

Please bring $2 for the field, which for this week only includes a pan-seared Northern halibut, lovingly garnished with seaweed and greens…..Raymond

PS: While the post-game fish is somewhat "theoretical," you can in fact enjoy a plethora of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies while simultaneously doing your little bit to get rid of the world’s most powerful Bozo. Saturday at 11, at Albany’s Memorial Park—Details at this site:
