Softball: A Brief Dialectic on Failure and Fault

Dear People,

Chris Fure’s team decimated my own, 25-16, and that’s despite the fact that from the top of the 4th onward, we were playing under the formal protection of both the risen Lord and the 10-run Mercy Rule. Of course, as rules go, she can be a soothing yet utterly feckless mistress, though in fairness my side was sucking so badly that had it not been in place, my own aerobic algorithms suggest we would’ve actually lost 87-3.

This is all the more staggering given that on paper, we were faster, stronger and unquestionably more hale (yeah, my side had Frank, Jeff W. and the Dunkleator). Yet Chris is a beloved fellow-captain who insisted to the end that I simply could not blame myself, for “it’s talent that wins games, but it’s only management that loses them.” To be sure, I take great pride in knowing that our community values the gentle solace of the ego-salving perspective, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Ray

Softball: Metals

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now there are still four slots left.

Please bring $4 for the field, which for this week only includes either a variety of Struts and Java Servlets with osCache on the Application Server of your choice or a copy of my own personally compiled CD featuring the very best of Uriah Heep (“Years of Genius: 1970-1975”)….Raymond 845-7552
