Softball: The Joys Denied of Metrosexual Man

Dear People,

Jeff W’s team eviscerated my own 25-12, which was frankly rude when one considers that both Chris Fure and Kevin returned after several months hiati in Washington, and yes, that’s the plural, no matter what those verbal luddites at Merriam Webster imply to the contrary. Regardless, the point is that my side got off to a somewhat inauspicious start when, in a futile attempt to grab an annoying game-opening dudball to shallow center right, Chris’ left knee and Kevin’s upper lip unadvisedly raced toward the exact same point in space and time.

Newtonian biomechanical realities being what they are, it was Kevin who chose to sit out the next couple innings, but he heroically rose anew—perhaps bloodied and shaken, but more determined than ever to save our team. Of course, softball is not some cloyingly-scripted Hollywood chick-flick, and thus his yearnings were both irrelevant and preposterous. Yep, in the end, 25-12. Bummer.

In any case, this upcoming Sunday is Mother’s Day, so naturally I was thinking that I wouldn’t bother to organize a game since so many of our core players are mothers, have had a mother, or cherish their current mothers-in-law as a majestic testament to the glory of extended family. The fact is that I myself like to nurture my inner maternal, and thus when Wendy’s not watching, I’ll sometimes gently caress our cherished baby eel under his slithery little neck. No, I’ll never know the subtle grace of gestational diabetes or morning sickness, but I think we can all admit that I "get it." And therefore, after all, there will be a game at San Pablo #2 this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: More Treats from Chez Pretentious

Dear People,

There will probably be a game at San Pablo park #2 this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now, there are still four slots left. However, if it rains a lot between now and then or conditions are ambiguous that morning, you will need to check email/voicemail.

Assuming the best, please bring $2 for the field, which for this week only includes a succulent grilled loin of Cattail Creek Ranch lamb, with cumin and fennel sauce, braised carrots and a generous selection of locally grown garden lettuces…Raymond 845-7552

Softball: Sunday 10AM: Carpe Diem!!

Yes, it drizzled last night, and yes, a contemptible dark grey layer of nimbostratus clouds has cast a morbid pall on the entire region, and yes some of you are driving in from places like Santa Cruz, Vallejo and Kansas City, but what would you tell your grandkids if you panicked and refused to take the chance, only to later find out that it never rained and the game was wondrous?? "Oh yeah, I wanted to play, but, uh, you know, I was, uh….scared." Yeah, that will really impress them.

I think you see my point. As of now, the field is perfect, THE SUN HAS BROKEN THROUGH, life is risk, and as you know, courage is the most admired quality in the eyes of the Lord. See ya at San Pablo #2 at 11:00/Touch football if we end up screwed…Ray
