Softball: The Craft of Planning Chow

Dear People,

First of all, I think I need to properly contextualize last week’s final score, lest there be some misconception about the overall tenor of the match. The hard and relevant reality is that my team outplayed Chris Fure’s over the last FIVE innings of the game, 3-1. In other words, my side’s total overall performance was one of moral triumph, if for no other reason than we won 55% of the aerobic college (If only Kerry could do so well!). And yet, pure mathematics is a cruel, salacious and arbitrary mistress, for despite this compelling tableau, Chris’ team actually eked out the technical win, 19-3. Curious.

In any case, there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11:00. In addition, our first potluck barbecue of the year will follow immediately afterward, which, among other things, will allow us to frolic on Michael Davey’s birthday. This giant of the community, father of the Elymeister, inimitable linguist and power-hitter extraordinaire, will be turning, uh, something between 32 and 46, which places him squarely in the very prime of his post post-youth.

Softball goes to the first 22 commits, however, any and all are welcome to the Barbie. If you are planning to attend, you should bring your own meat/equivalent, AND you should let me know what you’re communal contributions will be, lest we end up with lots of sponge cake, cigarettes and Vicodin, but no veggies. Highly recommended offerings include (at least two) grills/coal/lighter fluid, tables, blankets to sit on, paper towels/plates/cups, tons of ice, soft drinks, juices, beer, more ice (bonus points if freshly crushed), spatulas, real knives and plastic silverware, side salads, fine breads and cheeses, condiments, onions, mayo, brownies, cake, homemade ethnic entrees that grandmama used to make, more ice, chips, assorted fresh fruit, raw vegetables, and if feeling inspired, Braised Oxtail in Cabernet Wine, with Virgin Capers, Trofie Pasta and Carrot au Jus….Raymond

Softball: Succulent

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, followed by a potluck barbecue feast. The game, alas, is now FULL, but you’re still welcome to come to the Barbie if you let me know what you plan to bring (As of now, bread and cheese, chips, a fold out card table, sitting blankets and more drinks and ice are especially encouraged, and don’t forget, you should also bring your own whatever for the grill).

Please note that the field is reserved from 1-5 by a group of children who will be celebrating a birthday, and given the totality of the circumstances, I have to assume that birthday is not Mike Davey’s. Therefore, players should get to our game by 10:59 AT THE LATEST, which is like 11:17, except that it isn’t. In addition, we’ll have to discreetly set up our foodage on the North side of the benches. If push came to shove, I think we could kick their prepubescent asses in a rumble, but that should only be pursued as a last resort, once co-existence, inspections and bribery have failed.

$2 for the field/Call for late cancels/See ya Sunday…Raymond 845-7552
