Softball: A Loose Metaphorical Gloss on Human Reproduction

Dear People,

I'm not going to sugarcoat it; My side was far from chary in going after both ego and bone, and thus in a disturbing shellacking that left Mike Davey's team utterly degraded, they succumbed, and succumbed hard, 19-13. Right from the 7-0 get-go, my hitters were crisp and consistent, and while Alan Miller's pitching was honorable, his infield was listless, his outfield was jejune, and as is his occasional early-inning wont, the MillerMan soon had that tragically pained look that nearly cries out “My-team-sucks; Let's-concede-now-and-get-some-banana-waffles-and-beer.”

Of course in fairness, this may have reflected a reasonable critique for the aerobic calamity at hand, yet I'd like to think that deep in the bosom of every athlete who has ever played in this humble little league, there is a basic infracaninophilic esprit-de-corps that actually thrives in the face of darkness at noon. Yeah, that's what I'd like to think, and I'm not ashamed to say it.

The point is that this upcoming Sunday is Father's Day, and so naturally I wasn't going to organize a game. But then it suddenly occurred to me that while I did indeed get barrenized before my tiny little seeds could fulfill their Darwinian destiny, I often feel that this very community is in many ways my own aerobic progeny-cherished, vital and a surprisingly frequent source of gnawing existential drift. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: Choices

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there is still one slot left.

This week's field fee is just $4, and that includes either a succulent post-match sushi-grade herring marinated with garlic and wasabi oil, or an unabridged and fully illustrated Norwegian-Bengali bilingual dictionary….Raymond 845-7552
