Softball: Soils Rich in Kin

Dear People,

My team trounced Chris Fure’s 19-10, in one of those rapid-fire shellackings in which yet again, those amongst us who don’t make the big headlines or get the large signing bonuses still manage to dominate with raw perseverance. I’m talking about Debbie, of course, whose salary remains at the standard $ 0 per game (A few weeks ago she humbly requested a modest raise, but I muttered something about precedent and walked away). In any case, on this fine day, the Debbinator defied all expectations, batted 1,000, smashed five line drives of arguably frightful celerity, drove in countless runs and left Chris’ entire contingent both befuddled and utterly demoralized. In all candor, I still giggle just thinking about it.

In any case, while the eyes of the world were on Debbie’s staggering dominance, a more important yet subtle phenomenon may have gone largely unnoticed to both fans and players alike (By “fans,” obviously, I refer you to the mesmerized grazing yak of the local tundra). Yes, on this particular Father’s Day, it so happens that over half our athletes were united by stout familial bonds, proving once again that pure aerobic release and traditional family values are not mutually exclusive.

Specifically, I refer you to Tim and Arthur (father and son—Dutch version), Steve and Matt (father and son—Yale version), Susan and Peter (Mother-in-Law and Son-in-Law, generationally intriguing version), Deb and Stephan (spouse and spousal unit), Chris and Adrian (legendary first cousins of the Song of the Furies), and of course me and the community itself, for barren though I’ve chosen to be, you as a people are my own precious love child (write I, for the second time in three weeks, because there is nothing more deeply satisfying than shameless self-plagiarizing). And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. . .Raymond

Softball:

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still four slots left.

This week’s field fee is just $4, which for this week only includes a succulent post-game leg of brined Magruder Ranch pork cooked in fresh alfalfa hay…Raymond 845-7552
