Softball: Humble

Dear People,

My team staved off Chris Fure's, 13-11, in one of those joyous displays of aerobic pulchritude that left me wondering why anyone would ever pass up softball for the admittedly more popular pastimes of Sunday church, brunch and weed. In any case, it was a see-sawing nail-biter that could've gone either way, and indeed, we pulled it off in spite of what was an objectively ghastly collapse of my side's basic base-running acumen.
Most noticeably, Frank consistently trotted about with the somewhat precarious celerity of a disabled garden snail while others amongst my posse succumbed to throw-outs at home, pickoffs at 3rd and even a failed sacrifice pickle. Yet truth be told, it was probably my own 7th-inning decision to blast off from 1st to 2nd on a one-out pop-up to short that was the most disturbing. Needless to say, this not only guaranteed an utterly pointless double play, but it also suggested that I might be what certain cognitive therapists refer to as “an earnest yet total retard.”

The point is that I've been steadily advancing in the algebra section of Khan Academy (khanacademy.org-my vote for the best website on earth), but my sudden inability to process the essential conceptual underpinnings of quadratic equations is gnawing away at my mathematical self-esteem. Moreover, I'm not sure it helped that the 14-year old daughter of one of Wendy's best friends just told me that if I studied a little more seriously, I'd be caught up to her in no time. In other words, I'm now breaking my cranial ass in hopes of reaching a basic 9th grade level of algebraic proficiency, and frankly, this does not bode well for my original intent of blazing through the Khan calculus modules by the end of the year. Still, I'll be dammed if I'm going to give up on my life-long dream of becoming a tenured Professor of Quantum Electrodynamics, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Raymond

Softball: Roberts (and Chee's wheels!)….

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still four slots left.

Please bring $4 for the field, which for this week only includes a rare post-game bacchanal of secular European-style tyranny, death panels and forced broccoli stew….Raymond 845-7552

PS: As most of you know, Chee has been the moral backbone of this community for almost 10 years. Sadly though, he has only two more games left before he returns to his beloved Malaysia, where he plans to manage the Borneo Association of Softball, Curling and other Never-Played Sports in Borneo. He will be dearly missed, but you can remember him forever by buying his car!!.....
