Softball: Unfortunate

Dear People,

My team beat Jeremy’s 15-11, on a 4th-of-July Day so utterly lovely that the ghosts of Hamilton, Madison and Jay were no doubt frolicking above us. Actually, Jay led my side with his unstoppable batting, and thus his influence was more corporeal in tone. Still, it was a game of glorious aerobic democracy. Except for the injuries.

Fortunately, Ken’s decision to throw a blazing line drive directly into my back has had few long-term consequences. Indeed, while the resulting hickey on my lower spleen aroused Wendy’s curiosity, she found that the varied purples of the bruise were nearly Rothkoesque in their beauty. Alas, the same can not be said for Jonny’s mischievous little ankle, which twisted itself into some kind of disturbingly swollen ossified pretzel-thing. This late-inning incident occurred just as two softball-curious buddies arrived to watch him fall flat on his pitiful face, leaving him just one more victim of deep center left’s insidious pockmarked grasses.

The hard reality is that Jonny’s cherished friends did not get to watch him dominate the field, as he had promised them. In fairness, though, they did get to see him writhe and bitterly whine, as the frisky ghosts of Hamilton, Madison and Jay frolicked above his pathetically supine body. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning...Raymond

Softball: A Bummer Update

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now, there are TWO slots left. For those who want to grab them, please be aware that I will be out of town until late Saturday night, and since I may not have easy email access, I might not be able to confirm you’re in until then.

It’s my sad duty to report that Jonny actually broke his leg last week, which means that he won’t be playing with us for several weeks. As far as I know, this is the first broken bone in our seven year history, so when he finally hobbles back to the field, we should plan on treating him like our own national hero—deeply flawed and brittle—but a hero nonetheless.

$2 for the field/See ya Sunday…Raymond 845-7552
