Softball: Space (Again)

Dear People,

Congratz to all on last week’s somewhat-less-than-spellbinding 31-10 romp in the tawdry milieu of aerobic degradation. As captain of the retardo side, I take full responsibility for all that transpired, including Nanci’s inability to catch six balls in a row thrown to home plate. Alas, this allowed Jeremy’s team to score 11 runs in a 5th inning assault that seemed to set the "tone" for the rest of the game. I also take responsibility for Mike Davey, who I weighted as my most pivotal superstar going in, but whose actual hitting and fielding were so utterly bovine that for this particular match, Nanci was NOT our most pathetic player!! I imagine that she takes great pride in moving up to that storied penultimate slot, and at least for me, her triumph in relative terms takes a bit of the sting off the disgrace of the day.

In any case, and as most of you probably just learned, it is now believed that there are approximately 70 sextillion stars in the known universe (that’s 70, followed by 22 zeros, though not 25 zeros, as I had always recklessly assumed). Regardless, I still get chills just thinking about all those glorious life-giving balls of burning hot whatever, and how their sheer number would seem to suggest that sentient life must be thriving with a cosmic vigor we can’t even fathom. Oh sure, I don’t "know" that softball exists on other planets, but the fact is that either it does or it doesn’t, and at the risk of waxing veklempt, either thought is staggering. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Raymond

Softball: Numbers

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11:00, but as of now and for reasons I don’t pretend to understand, we are at a bare minimum quorum with SIX slots still available. Therefore, you are now invited to commit for the many non-listed peoples, including your distant cousins, former therapists and sundry pervo neighbors.

Please bring $2 for the field, because unlike those kids in Sacramento, I’m willing to tax you and tax you hard, if that’s what it takes to provide the services you crave…. Raymond 845-7552
