Softball: The Ceaseless Process of Organic Reconfiguration

Dear People,

Congratz to all on last weekend's grueling 20-13 paragon of intensive multi-injury competitive rigor, steeped as it was in the indomitable will of the human spirit. Clearly, the score does not reflect the clarion fervor of the kiniseological whole, yet I have no doubt that the teeming aphidic communities of Codornices' left-center field were treated to a rarefied display of ordinary and humble folk performing in aerobically extraordinary ways. I suppose that Ansel Adams could have captured the poignant grace of it all with his lens, or Georgia O' Keefe with her canvas, but ultimately, one had to be there in order to truly appreciate the exquisite confluence of sport, grass and cracking knee cap.

And speaking of painful thoughts, it is with a patina of sadness that I must announce that there will be a game and barbecue next Sunday, in honor of Chad and Derren and their beloved black beagle, "Lucky." The Chervitz brothers have made an indelible contribution to our games with over two and a half years of majestic aerobic excellence, but now New York City is taking them away. Yes, softball will survive, but we all know that they have been the Lennon-McCartney, Laurel and Hardy, AND Lewis and Clark of our entire community, all rolled into one. As such, it will be difficult enough to replace them---throw in the pooch and the task is essentially impossible.

In any case, we will carry on, and Sunday will be a time to celebrate, not grieve. Therefore there will be a game at Codornices at 11AM, followed by a barbecue at 1PM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. If you are committing for the whole kit and caboodle, please let me know what you'll be bringing to the barbie. A grill and coals will be supplied, but like last time, everyone should bring their own meat or equivalent, and one communal contribution. I would especially encourage the necessary infrastructure items such as paper plates, ice, or properly fermented garden mulch....Raymond
