Softball: Our Diaspora Anew

Dear People,

In what may be the most exciting unaffiliated email-organized softball game in the history of the entire human species, my team rallied from a crushing six-run 9th-inning deficit to beat Jeff’s on the last hit of the game, 19-18. I still get teary-eyed when I think how Chad returned from New York City to triumph in his first community match since 1999, or how Nom brought waves of deep aerobic pride to every single Thai person in the Bay Area by scoring the game-winning run in the first and only softball game that she’s ever, ever played, or how Nikki went 6 for 6 with a triple, two doubles and six singles, only to end up on the losing side because life is often unjust, random and filled with the acrid irony of excellence denied.

I'd love to tell you more, but it's now past midnight and I'm exhausted. The fact is I just got back from deep and high in the wondrous Colorado Rockies, where I spent three full days bonding with wild bison, elk and cantaloupe. And therefore there will be a game at SAN PABLO #2 this SUNDAY at 4PM (which is just like Codornices this Sunday at 11am except that it's actually two miles southeast and five hours later), IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning....Raymond

PS: San Pablo #2 is a noble field of verdant tundra at the corner of Oregon and Mabel, a few blocks northeast of where San Pablo Avenue meets Ashby. If in doubt, tap into your inner topographer.

Softball: The Allure of an Exotic Locale

Dear People,

There will be a game at SAN PABLO #2 this SUNDAY AT 4PM, and as of now, it is full. Please note that if you show up at Codornices at 11AM, you are likely to be taunted by a nutso mob of city-affiliated adolescent lacrosse players, most of whom will have little patience for your geotemporal dufiositude.

In any case, if you committed and need to cancel, please let me know ASAP, and if you are trolling for reopened slots, feel free to contact me later.

This week’s field fee is just $3, and that includes complimentary valet parking, free wifi and a bountiful selection of seasonal Chinese greens …Ray 845-7552

PS: Again: San Pablo #2 is at the corner of Oregon and Mabel, a few blocks northeast of where San Pablo Avenue meets Ashby.
