Softball: Pay Attention

Dear People,

There was a stirring moment around 7:09 last Sunday evening when the damp Bay Area fog rolled eerily on to our homeland, draining the sunlight, frightening the stately elm trees, and causing a sudden aura of crepuscular sensuality to the newly moistened grasses of our cherished aphid-laden outfield. The lingering interplay between this majestic force of nature and our communal lust for raw aerobic release was nothing short of magical, for even though Jonny's team had just staved off my own, 8-4, we as a people were quickly consumed by a spontaneous mist-induced craving for a legally inexcusable but spiritually imperative additional 10th inning.

Unexpectedly, this tawdry display of recreational self-indulgence paved the way for my own personal milestone in recreational leadership; Yes, my side lost 8-4, and then again 8-6, making me the only captain in our illustrious 9-year history to shepherd his team through two loses in a single game!! So if you saw me later that night looking especially chipper and radiant, now you know why.

In any case, our multi-week diaspora in both time and space continues, and therefore there will be a game at GROVE FIELD this SATURDAY at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. Grove is located at the corner of Martin Luther King and Russell, one block north of Ashby. For the temporally and spatially challenged, please internalize that Saturday is BEFORE Sunday, and Grove is not Codornices, lest you once again expose your unsightly inner-dufus....Raymond

Softball: Different

Dear People,

There will be a game at GROVE park TOMORROW (Saturday) at 11AM, and as of now there are still four slots left. Grove, considered by many to be the East Bay’s most vital yet deeply misunderstood recreational facility, is located at the corner of Martin Luther King and Russell, one block North of Ashby.

Please bring $3 for the field, which for this week only includes my personal post-game tour of the adjacent Berkeley City Tool Library, with its alluring array of trowels, rakes and hoes…Raymond 845-7552
