Softball: A Brief Foray into the Dark Ages

Dear People,

Jeff's team crushed my own 24-14, but that’s only because they scored 13 runs in the bottom of the 4th on a homer, a double, a couple singles and 32,708 errors. Perhaps the root problem was that pitcher Alan Brill's distractingly sensual windup—pirouette, flail, toss—reached the zenith of its artistic expression during that very inning. In fairness, good ’ol Brilloboy was the cohesive glue of our entire defense, though if the Bolshoi Ballet eventually offers a trade, I'd be irresponsible to not consider it.

In any case, and as most of you certainly know, this weekend marks the 1, 488th anniversary of the day that Clovis I rose to the throne, thereby officially founding the Frankish Kingdom. The Franks, of course, were a hearty people of deep Germanic stock, who, for what it’s worth, are only distantly related to our beloved Frank and Franklin. Still, while the Romans may have hated their little medieval guts, it would be hard to deny their magnificent contributions to feudalism, the misery of the serfs and the overall onset of 500 years of European stagnation. And therefore, and hopefully for the last time this season, there will be a game at San Pablo #2 this Sunday at 4PM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: The Mysteries of Tomales Bay

Dear People,

There will be a game at San Pablo #2 this Sunday at 4PM, and as of now, there are still four slots left. Even better, this week’s field fee is just $3, which also pays for the usual infrastructure and cocktails.

NOTICE: There is a chance that I will be a bit late for this week’s match, or even really late, or even so late that I don’t show up at all, or perhaps I will show up midgame, but curiously, dressed as a fully armed medieval knight. I honestly don’t know. All of you who committed, of course, will still arrive at 3:59.
The point is that I will be on a vital secret mission of magnificent nuptial import from Sunday morning onward, but you don’t need to be frightened. All contingency plans have already been put in place, and thus should I fail to make it, Ramona will be in charge. She will have all the necessary equipment as well as the team rosters. Moreover, in my absence she will possess the absolute authority of Organizational Czar, including the power to subpoena, arrest and deport. Be nice.

Until Saturday night, you should contact me (ASAP) if you committed and need to cancel, or if you’re still hoping to get a slot. Beginning Sunday morning, you will need to contact Ramona directly at (510) 326-7211.

Godspeed….Raymond 845-7552

PS: Some people think we’d be better off with ‘bag-style’ bases. I disagree, but am happy to put it to a vote. So, if anybody has an extra set they could donate to the community, please let me know or just bring them to a game.
