Softball: The Reasons We Take Calcium

Dear People,

First of all, the fact that Frank’s team was ahead 24-9 at the end of the 7th does not mean that his side won. The hard reality is that a pernicious confluence of increasingly ferocious rain, blinding darkness and disconcerting swarms of leaf-nosed blood-sucker bats made continued play into the 8th and 9th innings all but impossible, and since our community is governed by the venerable principles of law, aerobic justice and my own arbitrary fiats, last week’s game must be officially recorded as a de facto tie ("24-9, Tie").

Regardless, I believe I had no choice but to call off the game when I did, although admittedly, I, too, was curious whether Nanci would extend her record-breaking streak of catastrophic success, in which seven straight grounders bounced off her ankle, tibia, clavicle, elbow, knee, ego and eyeball. Of course, Nanci is not the "clavicle of our community," but the moral backbone, and I can assure you, her spine remains unscathed, unafraid and unabashedly undulant. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 3:50PM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

PS: At the end of October we will probably be switching for a few weeks to either Saturdays at 11AM at Codornices or Sundays at 11AM at San Pablo. Since we are a humble democracy, you are welcome to tell me which one you prefer, and then, as per the great aerobic traditions of ancient Greece, Rome and Florida, I will choose the wishes of the noble majority. Unless, of course, I personally prefer the other choice.

Softball: Final Aerobic Dusk

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 3:50PM, and as of now, there are still five slots left.

Please note that as of this morning, Codornices was still officially closed, and equally ominous, my sources from the Climate Desk at the Khazaki Consulate in Livermore say that there’s a chance of rain—wet, cold and contemptible—between now and Sunday evening. The point is that if it does rain between now and then, you will need to check email or voicemail. Of course if conditions are ambiguous, I will follow my heart and always err on the side of your cardiovascular yearnings.

Softball: Sunday Noon: Yes! (Interpreting the "Intent" of Law)

Dear Fellow Risk-Takers,

As of this morning, Codornices is officially closed, but she is also glorious, without puddles and as dry as a sun-parched Mojave rattler with acute emphysema. Therefore, all commits should plan to arrive by 3:50 SHARP, and in the interests of plausible deniability, the first person there should accidentally push over the ‘Field Closed’ sign and drag it behind the backstop. I’ll also drive by Kleeberger, just in case.

Courage/Punctuality/2 slots left….Raymond 845-7552
