Softball: Finding Purpose in Historical Context and Fictional Delerium

Dear People,

Congratz to all on last week's epic 20-18 softball battle. When I think of the clarion focus of so many of the players, I find myself overwhelmed by the sheer resiliency of the human spirit. I guess I'm just that way.

Unfortunately, Kleeberger will be monopolized by various Cal teams next weekend. Thus, we will return to the internal exile of Albany's verdant grasslands, where tolerance, softball and marijuana plants flourish in the rich Albanian soil (In a bit of historic irony, few realize that this idyllic East Bay town was named for Albansy Houxhja, the noted Albanian immigrant, anarchist and Brooklyn Dodger short stop, who became the first player to ever bunt in professional baseball, allegedly after falling tipsy from smoking a reefer before game 5 of the 1923 world series).

I think you see my point. In any case, barring rain, pestilence, or a dearth of commits come Thursday night, next Saturday's game will be at the Albany Middle School field, at 4:30 sharp. So make that commit. Do it for little Albansy Houxhja....Raymond
