Softball: The Lingering Issue of Arms Control

Dear People,

Congratz to all on last week’s wondrously grueling 28-26 pre-twilight pitcher’s duel. In the end, my team staved off Broh’s by the narrowest of margins (with the abstract exception of 28-27), but in all candor, I believe they actually played the better game. Indeed, I would gently suggest that if it weren’t for Frank’s 10 straight overthrows from Short to First, my team would not have enjoyed that delicious 12-run 5th inning breakout, and thus to a certain extent, Broh’s team could reasonably pinpoint the source of their ultimate failure in the bosom of a single soul. Yet I would still not cast aspersions, for the inspiring reality is that Frank continues to play our pastime’s most treacherous position as a stoic new ward of the East Bay Center for the Legally Blind.

In any case, next week marks the return of Daylight Savings, that hideous contrivance of temporal abuse in which our entire country succumbs to the excess influence of a few dozen Midwestern goat farmers. This means that night will be falling early, hard and dark, and thus we can no longer play in the late afternoon. Even worse, Codornices will still be reserved by a pampered pre-pubescent cabal of Lacrosse-playing sickos. Therefore, there will be a game at SAN PABLO FIELD #2* this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning….Raymond

*SFP2 is easy to find: Take Ashby to San Pablo, turn North and go for three blocks, turn right on Oregon and go for three more blocks and you’ll be at the field. It is a different vibe than Codornices, but there is no need to be frightened. Indeed, its grasses are as inviting, lush and verdant as fresh Chinese greens.

Softball: A Brief Primer on Ineptitude-Avoidance

Dear People,

There will be a game at San Pablo Field #2 this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now, there are still five slots left. Please note:

i) San Pablo Field #2 is like Codornices in that they both have grass, but the hard and bitter reality is that it’s actually a different location.* If you show up at the latter, you will be mocked by pre-pubescent Lacrosse-playing street urchins who have no respect for you or your ilk.

ii) This Saturday night is the end of Daylight Savings, which means that you have to SET YOUR CLOCK BACK before you go to sleep. If you fail to do so, you would arrive for the game at noon, not 11AM. This would cause me intensive organizational grief, and even worse, it would forever mark you as a temporal dufus.

$2 for the field/See ya Sunday…Ray 845-7552

*Once again: SFP2 is at the corner of Oregon and Mabel and easy to find—Take Ashby to San Pablo, turn North and go for three blocks, turn right on Oregon and go for three more blocks.
