Softball: Estrogen (Tales of a Semi-Professional Ghost Writer)

Dear People,

First of all, this is not the time or place to let you know that as of today, November 1st, both the 3rd edition of Taking Charge of Your Fertility (500,000 sold) AND the first edition of Cycle Savvy: The Smart Teen’s Guide to the Mysteries of her Body (perhaps a dozen sold and counting!) are now available at fine book sellers and online merchants everywhere. For one thing, I am not one of those guerrilla marketing whores who would exploit your perfectly innocent presence on a softball-based listserv by even suggesting to you that there has never been a book written specifically for teenage girls that is as empowering, informative and utterly way cool as Cycle Savvy. Nor, for that matter, would I ever suggest that you must therefore tell every teen girl you know, EVEN THOUGH this is the one book that will transform them from another generation of menstrually clueless cauldrons of adolescent insecurity into paragons of biologically self-aware, enlightened and confident young women. No, that’s not my style, you deserve better, and I’m simply not going to go there.

On the other hand, let’s not kid ourselves; If I were to identify just one play that assured my team’s magnificent 18-16 triumph over Jeff’s, it would have to be Nikki’s breath-taking two-RBI 6th-inning triple way over the Jeffster’s shell-shocked little head, and quite bluntly, it was a hit as replete with the magic of Lutenizing Hormone as I’d ever seen. Indeed, the Nikkinator had been perusing my show-and-tell copy of Cycle Savvy for several minutes when it was suddenly her turn at bat. Sure, she’s now a tad past her teen years, but she had that twinkle in her eyes, and as she approached the plate, she looked at me knowingly. “I got that ‘ol LH surge” she gently whispered, coyly adding, “Jeff is playing me shallow, as if I were already in my luteal phase! He’s dust.” The rest, as they say, is herstory, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Ray
