Softball: Early (And Often)

Dear People,

Frank’s team outscored my own 17-9, on the verdant, exotic terrain of San Pablo Field #2. But just for the record, my side either tied or outscored his in seven of nine total innings, so by the sublime logic of our national elections, I figure my team actually won 272-266. Regardless, and speaking of, I have decided to quickly write you a day earlier than normal this week, since I will be in no mood to communicate later if tonight’s news leaves me embarrassed for my country, or more specifically, feeling somewhat vomitous.

Of course, I do not engage in political bloging, and thus I obviously have no intention of straying from the strictly non-partisan nature of these aerobic communiqués. Still, I would gently remind you of what I wrote just four years ago this week, as Carolyn and Neil presented their cherished newborn to the community before moving to some annoying swing state back East. Sadly, I believe my words have retained a certain desperate resonance:

Indeed, as I paused to briefly look into Elijah’s tiny little baby eyes, I saw in his return stare both the piercing retina of a suckling determined to one day run, field, and bat with all the glory of his parents, and reassuringly, the sassy outlines of a gentle drool-filled smile that virtually cried out for the nullification of tomorrow’s electoral college results for every state between North Carolina and Texas.

Alas, nobody acted on that darling tyke’s prescient little grin, and I think it’s clear that in retrospect, such indifference has totally hosed the world. But it’s also four years later, softball has survived, and with a little luck, the swagger-assed dolt in question will soon be living in Texas. And therefore there will be a game at San Pablo Field #2 this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…..Raymond

PS: I will do my best to have Berkeley Parks and Rec require that the soccer playing peoples be banned from our rightfully reserved deep left field tundra, but I’m not sure how receptive they will be to our concerns. I will argue from firm aerobic convictions of utilitarian principle, which is, of course, all we really have.

Softball: The Bitter and the Sweet

Dear People,

There will be a game at San Pablo #2 this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now, there are still FIVE slots left.

The Bad News: As best I can tell, a really annoying mass of homo-squeamish gun-crazed fetal-fetished religiocretin loons has once again made American Democracy totally not fun.

The Good News: I have talked with the fine folks at Berkeley Parks and Rec, and I have been assured that when we reserve SP2, we are reserving the whole field, and that in fact, the softball-hating soccer playing peoples have no right to set up their space from North to South when both fields are being used. The upshot is that they’ve now been told this, and thus for now on (so long as we’re at San Pablo), we’ll be able to use all of left field.

Extra added bonus: Because my eyes were forlorn when I spoke of our territorial woes, this week’s field fee is free.

See ya Sunday…Raymond 845-7552
