Softball: Adieu

Dear People,

Congratz to all on yesterday’s injury-laden wind-strewn inimitably magnificent 11-10 paradigm of, uh, OK, actually, I don’t have time for that.

The hard reality is that by the time you read this, I will be on a plane to Southeastern China---and hopefully one whose not so tiny little engines remain reliably glued to its wings. In any case, Frank has told me that he might organize a game next weekend, but that’s between him and his Lord and you (and just between you and me, while the Frankster is all goodness and virtue, this is also a guy who arrives 10 minutes late for virtually every match…i.e.…you may want to verify with him that the field is truly reserved and the commits are there if he undertakes this most delicate of tasks).

As for me, next Sunday I will personally be rousing the locals at Guanzhou’s splendid Jiangxi Suo Park, and at a minimum, I envision a delightful afternoon of batting practice and braised pork balls with 17 bewildered Cantonese elders. Afterward, I plan to spend a few days mastering the basic relative clauses and falling-rising-falling tones, but I should be back on Saturday night the 24th. And even though I’ll be jet-lagged out of my gourd, the thought of denying myself yet another week of aerobic release is simply too much to bear. Therefore, through the modern magic of international email, fax and carrier pidgin, I’ll probably be able to organize a game for the following day. Stay tuned….Raymond
