Softball: Feelings

Dear People,

On a hot, sultry and eerie November day, Pace's team crushed my own with pure, unadulterated slugger's mojo, 26-14. But that wasn't the real story. Indeed, both sides had their power hitters, their staggering good looks and even their clarity of aerobic purpose, but the fact is that the Pacester's mom and dad had flown in from Pittsburg to see their cherished boy perform, whereas best I could tell, my fan-base was limited to a few rasorial field mice behind the 3rd-base bleachers.

Nevertheless, we held our own 'til the top of the 6th, when Greg Laddish unleashed his 3-RBI 600-foot monster blast to left. At that point, my peeps grew sullen and inexplicably stopped hitting, I began to feel parched and weary, and every time I looked over at Pace's ma, she was beaming with such intense maternal pride that, truth be told, I felt an almost feral compulsion to cry out for my own source of equitable team-balancing love. Perhaps for the best, I quelled my demons and stayed stoically silent, yet I still think we all know that had I felt just a little more coddled, cuddled and cared for, my side wouldn't have sucked. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: Maybe…

Dear People,

There will hopefully be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now, there is still one slot left. However, because a contemptible storm front is approaching as I peck, you will need to check email that morning to see if we can play. Of course there is no need to give in to despair, for not only is Codornices a proud and verdant land with some of the most efficient drainage on the face of the earth, but as you all know, we are a stout, determined and cheery folk by both birth and temperament (sort of).

If we do play, this week's field fee is just $4, and that includes a complimentary post-game pedicure with either cuticle recovery or paraffin rejuvenation…Ray

Softball: 8:30PM Saturday: The Sorrow and the Pity :-(…

Dear People,

As you know, my heart shatters with the explosive grief of 1,000 newly orphaned pup seals whenever I have to deny you your vital aerobic release. Alas, though, the hard reality is that it's still pouring as I type this, and thus the odds of Codornices being truly playable by tomorrow morning are about 1 in 10 Trillion (Yeah, I happen to have an old 64-bit Cray CPU in my basement, so it's not like I'm pulling numbers out of my arse).
I therefore have no choice but to cancel this week's game.

Patience…Raymond
