Softball: Tchaikovsky

Dear People,

No fewer than seven dedicated souls showed up to till our infield soils at 10:30 AM Sunday morning, and frankly, the sight of so much pre-game yeoman labor left me more profoundly veklempt than anything in the match that followed. Of course that might be because Jonny’s team crushed my own after a nine-run 9th-inning explosion which appeared to suggest that Chris Fure—tiller, rotator, last-inning pitcher and mensch extraordinaire—may not have fully understood the underlying conceptual goals of the closer’s craft. The point is that 28-18 is just a score, and ultimately, it does not begin to tell the story.

In any case, and to be fair, the Furinator was probably still shaken by having witnessed Nanci plow into Ehud at 3rd, not because plowage took place, per se , but rather because she continued to churn forward at her blazing three-mile-per-hour waddle, even as the Huud struggled to block her advance toward the cherished base in question. In a stirring five seconds of tightly-coiled ruttage and fiercely conflicting wills, both players appeared so confused by their own spastic interaction that the net result was as if they had curiously embraced the climactic pas de deux of Swan Lake itself. Indeed, I think I finally understand why softball is so often referred to as the Ballet of Sport, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: The Dilemma of Transitional Oversubscription ;-(

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, but unfortunately, it is once again already full. I suspect it will take a few more weeks to digest the relative newbies on the list, but in doing this for nine years, I’m confident that supply-demand equilibrium will return soon enough. In the meantime, no new players will be added (so please don’t ask), but I am willing to consider any suggestions on fairness, player juggling, the 22-rule, etc.

$3 for the field/As always, please let me know ASAP if you commit and have to cancel/See ya Sunday…Raymond 845-7552
